Winter Green • RI Children's Photographer
What do you think of when you hear winter? Do you think of cold? Snow? Time spent by the wood stove and endless mugs of tea? These are all part of the traditional winter. As a RI children's photographer, I know that not every winter is like this; sometimes the snow part is a bit more sparse. All last winter was spent waiting for snow to shoot in, but it never came. Sometimes winter is just cold days, early nights, and a seemingly barren landscape with no life to it.
But even that seemingly barren winter landscape is beautiful, and if you look all around you, there is lots of beauty, life, and color in winter. Evergreens, rhododendrons, and holly are a few. Even the dead, dry grasses left over from summer add interest and texture to the landscape.
Several weeks ago on an overcast, chilly, typical winter day, I had the opportunity to have a photo session with a beautiful young lady in a green cape. We had our shoot in a simple but beautiful rural road and field in South Kingstown. Miss Q, the lovely subject, took on the role of part strong winter goddess, part elfin queen, and a little bit Outlander lookalike. What we ended up with was a series of images where Miss Q and the winter landscape mesh together beautifully.
To take a look at some photos from our session, look below. Where do you find beauty in winter? Let me know in the comments!
