Easy, Yummy Chocolate Breakfast Smoothie • Wakefield Rhode Island Family Photographer

Mornings are hard.  I'm specifically talking about weekday mornings, workday mornings, school day mornings.  You know, when you're rushing to get yourself, your kids, or both out the door.  It's all you can do to keep your sanity let alone find your keys, and you know they say breakfast is the most important meal of the day but who has time for that?  And what the heck is tasty early in the morning?

I'm here to help!  Today I'm going to share with you my favorite breakfast smoothie (it's pretty much my favorite breakfast, period).  This smoothie is quick to make, healthy, vegetarian (with a tweak or two it can be vegan), paleo, and it tastes like a thick, creamy chocolate shake.  Yes, you read that correctly.  It's fueled many a morning photo shoot for me in my role as a Rhode Island family photographer.  This smoothie is sure to be a favorite for you, your kids, or both.  For all the details on how to make it, read on!

You'll need a blender and some measuring spoons, and a measuring cup if your blender doesn't have cup measurements on the side.  The ingredients are as follows (I love getting all my ingredients at Belmont Market in Wakefield, RI!):

  • 2 cups of almond milk (you could also use coconut, soy, or cow's milk if you prefer)
  • Ice cubes (I use about 8)
  • Half an avocado
  • 1 banana
  • 1 tablespoon of chia seeds
  • 2 tablespoons of almond butter
  • 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder or cacao (my favorite is dark chocolate cocoa powder but I'm out of that right now!)
  • 2 tablespoons of raw honey (you could also use maple syrup or some dates if you'd like)

Put all the ingredients in the blender.  Enjoy the lovely morning light in your kitchen if that happens at your house.  Then, turn the blender on its highest power and blend for about 15-20 seconds, until your smoothie is nice and smooth.

And you're done!  This recipe makes enough for two servings that fit in two pint glasses, or two mason jar-type glasses (if you're like me and have broken all your pint glasses.  Whoops.)  Share one with your partner or your kids, or put the second glass in the fridge and save it for tomorrow's breakfast.  Try this smoothie out and let me know how you like it.  Got any other good quick breakfast ideas, smoothie or otherwise?  Let me know in the comments!
